Stony and Nicole Douglas are the proud owners of Mall Nanny and this is their story on how the idea for this unique concept came to life.
While Nicole was spending her days as a stay at home mom with her toddler son as her husband Stony worked in the healthcare field, she came to realize that after meeting many women through local mom groups that many of these women felt overwhelmed and were not taking much time for themselves. Not only that, but she also learned that many of these same moms didn't have any local family, no established babysitter they could trust and they seemed to have a hard time asking for help. Every day errands with small children can be a stressful experience for everyone involved, let alone a trip to a store to get something nice for yourself. There seems to be a common theme of "anxiety and stress" when it comes to venturing out with young kiddos. Nicole easily relates to this as being a parent, especially a stay at home parent, can be very challenging at times and self care doesn't happen often- if at all. And enjoyable trips to the store? Hard to come by.
Nicole thought "What if there was somewhere that could watch my child for a short time so I could get things done without the stress? Without the huge toddler meltdown?" "What if my child was happy and entertained and he really WANTED to go there? We could BOTH be happy?!" "What if this could help a lot of moms out by giving them the much needed BREAK they deserve?" Nicole and her husband Stony truly believed that this new concept could really help a lot of parents and be an important service to the community of Vancouver.
